The Early Roman Republic

As can be gathered from the foregoing economic, political and military movements, both constructive and destructive, were in evidence as European and euro-asia tribes started their exploration and expansion.
Like other groups, as the Latini tribes grew in size and strength, it was inevitable that they would collide with the expanding Etruscans to the north and their city-state of Veil.
According to legend, Latin King Numito was King of Alba Longa, a mini-kingdom.  King Numito was ejected from his throne by his cruel brother.  By birth, Romulus and Remus, by relations, were self-divine.  To avoid a further conflict with the Latin King, they set up their own city of Rome on April 21, 753 BC.  In an argument over who should rule, Romulus killed Remus.  The village of Rome was built on top of Palatine Hill which later would serve as a formidable defense against invading tribes.  The Etruscans, who had earlier settled in the north in Eturia had established extensive political control in the region by the late 7th century BC forming its own aristocratic and monarchial elites
